Take a look at the great user experience (UX) of sophisticated consumer software. It’s magnificent. Not always - but it can be. We developed Freeform - the development framework for our collaboration environments - to challenge this craziness. When we decided to tackle this a few years ago we realised – after a bit of trying – that it simply was not possible to create a business-boosting UX in concert with stability and security on any of the prevailing development platforms.

So we built our own. To do something that would provide such a great experience it inspired current users and would hold good for the millenials soon coming into the workforce required a development platform that had certain core qualities:

• Total freedom for skilled front end UX/UI designers to build interfaces fast

• The separation of the graphic presentation layer from the middle ware and back end in order to allow asynchronous development of back end, front end and middleware to achieve perpetual rather than phased improvements to the total solution.

• Open back end and front end so that communication with other systems is simple

The Screendragon Freeform Framework quite simply, enables you to customize the front end without affecting the back end and vice versa.

The impact of de-coupling these parts is that it delivers great customisation AND speed of turnaround.

The Screendragon Freeform Framework consists of a wealth of “functionality modules” that can be selectively plugged together to create a customized solution. We have grouped these modules into a set of commonly needed combinations. These are our basic products which are then customized to a tiny or greater degree to meet a client’s needs.

This approach not only enables immediate deployment but it also address a fundamental human capability issue; namely that most software developers are crap at designing interfaces…and most designers are not software developers.
