Screendragon Timetracker goes into beta:

Simple time tracking embedded within your work environment

So pretty much on time Screendragon’s timetracker module has gone into a beta program with a set of selected clients. Like most really useful tools it’s borne of real life needs: our own and our clients’.

Work in Screendragon takes place in an asynchronous unpredictable way. Individuals work from home, different offices, client offices, partner offices, coffee shops and so on. And of course we’re constantly working with partners and clients.

Our challenge was how to get all these fluid, fast changing resources to intuitively detail their hours so that projects could evaluated for effectiveness and cost efficiencies.

We wouldn’t re-invent the wheel for the sake of it and invest in the best of other people’s technologies when we can.

These are the reasons we had to create our own system:

1. Traditional time-tracking software would have introduced hassle because we would have had to set-up every contractor and freelancer with VPN access; And it would have posed security questions.

2. Traditional desktop time-tracking software tends to be ugly and a bit too complex for your regular employee. We want to use people’s brain power to solve problems not blow a fuse gaining a PhD in time-tracking methodology.

3. We wanted the time tracking module to sit in the same environment that people actually do their collaboration. Because that would be easier.

See the screens below for the results. We think it’s worked out well and we’re now using this internally to track and report on all our projects.

This Summer the portfolio of online services included in Buzz will be augmented by Timetracker. This is in addition to enterprise grade document management, blogs, surveys, profiles, chat & video conferencing, virtual meetings & mindmapping.
